Can you believe that Walmart is coming to Encinitas?
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Walmart will open a store in Encinitas in the Fall of 2012.
On September 6, the city issued permits to the store to begin converting what used to be the Home Expo on Leucadia Boulevard (just west of El Camino Real) into a Walmart. All of the renovations to the building are expected to take about a year.
One of the issues that came up when issuing the approval was with respect to the parking. As the lot currently stands, there are not sufficient parking spaces to accommodate Walmart. So, a portion of the store will be removed in order to add additional parking to the existing lot.
The Wednesday (that’s tomorrow, September 28, 2011) the City Council will provide a public update at 6:00 p.m. If you would like to go listen to the update, the meeting will be held at 505 S. Vulcan in Encinitas.
Boy, is Encinitas ever changing! In additional to Kohl’s and the Forum (which is technically in Carlsbad), we are not going to have a Walmart. Don’t stay away from Encinitas too long. Next time you come for a visit, you may find some other big changes.
By the way, if you want to live in a gorgeous ocean view home just a mile or so from all of the great amenities that Encinitas has to offer, check out this property at 1750 Dylan Way in Encinitas. It’s a gem!
