So you wanna buy a house. You may ask yourself, “What are the steps I need to take to buy a home?” I’m Jesse Ramirez, realtor at Broadpoint Properties and I’m gonna go over the steps to achieve your real estate goals.

Well, the first thing you’re gonna have to do is find a realtor. Now, you’re gonna ask yourself, “Should I just go online or where should I find this realtor?” Well, the first thing you should probably do is reach out to your friends, family, anybody that’s purchased that you know within the last six months. They’re gonna be able to refer you somebody that might have worked for them. You should also interview any potential realtors that are gonna be working for you. What was their production last year? Do they do this full time or part time? Where do they do most of their sales? And what will be their availability to show you property? A realtor should have a fiduciary responsibility towards their client. It is crucial that the realtor understands your needs for you and your family so that they can better serve you.

So you have a realtor. Now what? Well, it’s time to talk about finances. How are you gonna be paying for this home? If you have cash, you can go ahead and skip to the next step. But if you don’t have cash, we’ll go ahead and set you up with a lender. Just like when you go to the doctor, it’s always good to get a second opinion on your loan. This is a very big purchase, so you want to make the best decision possible. And most importantly, be very honest with your lender. Tell them all the issues you might have financially so that they can better serve you and find you the best program for your needs. Your lender is gonna need W2s, bank statements, your taxes for the last two years among other paperwork. Make sure to provide these in a timely manner, so that you can get pre-approved. And once the lender provides you with that golden ticket, your pre-approval, we’re ready to go shopping.
