The area of Downtown Escondido is often referred to as the Old Escondido Historic District. Downtown Escondido features a main street with restaurants, shops, and galleries and it also features a large city hall building. Additionally, downtown Escondido boasts unique artwork, a weekly Grand Avenue car show, and some historic buildings suitable for touring.

Many of the homes in downtown Escondido are in the Old Escondido Historic District, which features 900 properties within several city blocks built beginning in the mid-1880s.
